Hyundai unveils Crater Idea at Automobility LA

Hyundai’s compact off-road idea was designed in California and explores the evolution of the XRT design philosophy

Hyundai has unveiled the Crater Idea off-road SUV at Automobility LA in Los Angeles. The compact idea car was designed at Hyundai America Technical Middle in Irvine, California, and explores the evolution of the corporate’s XRT design philosophy.

The Crater Idea options 18-inch hexagonal wheels fitted with 33-inch off-road tyres, together with a large skid plate, roof platform for auxiliary gear, and limb risers extending from the bonnet to the roof. The outside adopts Hyundai’s ā€œArtwork of Metalā€ design language with sheer fender surfaces and outstanding shoulders. The car is completed in Dune Gold Matte, a green-gold exterior color impressed by California’s coastal terrain.

Inside gear features a bring-your-own-device digital interface, a full-width head-up show incorporating a rearview digital camera feed, and a practical roll cage construction. Wraparound seats function three-dimensional padding and four-point seatbelt programs. The Black Ember inside consists of black leather-based and Alcantara with orange accents.

Off-road options comprise entrance and rear locking differentials, terrain mode choice with presets for snow, sand and dirt situations, and an off-road controller for traction and braking administration. The idea consists of downhill brake management and navigation devices together with a compass and altimeter.

In a press release, SangYup Lee, Government Vice President and Head of Hyundai and Genesis World Design, mentioned: ā€œCrater started with a query: ā€˜What does freedom seem like?’ This car stands as our reply. It’s a imaginative and prescient formed by our endless drive to discover—to encourage our prospects to discover deeper and embrace the influence of journey.ā€

The Crater Idea will stay on show all through the Los Angeles Auto Present till 30 November.
