Charged EVs | Allegro launches ACS37200 present sensor for low-loss EV energy electronics

Allegro MicroSystems has launched the ACS37200, a galvanically remoted present sensor designed to extend effectivity and energy density in high-current purposes, together with hybrid and EVs. Allegro says the ACS37200 addresses a key problem dealing with EV and industrial energy engineers: the warmth and power loss attributable to conventional shunt resistors in high-current designs.

The ACS37200 incorporates a conductor resistance of fifty microohms, which, in line with Allegro, reduces energy loss by 90 p.c when in comparison with a traditional 0.5 milliohm shunt resistor in a 100 amp system. For instance, a standard shunt may waste as much as 5 watts as warmth, whereas the ACS37200 would restrict this loss to 0.5 watts. This minimizes wasted power and reduces the necessity for cumbersome heatsinks, enabling extra compact and energy-efficient energy electronics in EVs and associated purposes.

The sensor is packaged in a 100-square-millimeter PSOF footprint, which Allegro says is 70 p.c smaller than its previous-generation ACS772 CB package deal and occupies 95 p.c much less board house than discrete shunt-based options. The small dimension and lowered thermal output enable designers to optimize system layouts for larger energy density and reliability.

For EV traction inverters, battery administration and different high-voltage energy methods, the ACS37200 integrates licensed galvanic isolation at 1,000 volts RMS (1,414 volts DC) inside a single surface-mount package deal. It meets the UL 62368-1 security commonplace and comes factory-calibrated, successfully changing shunt resistors, isolation amplifiers, and related passive elements. This integration simplifies payments of supplies, streamlines provide chains and reduces the complexity of high-voltage isolation design.

“Our prospects persistently inform us that energy is a significant bottleneck. Programs want to watch, convert and ship extra energy than ever earlier than in the identical and even smaller type elements,” mentioned Matt Hein, Enterprise Line Director of Present Sensors at Allegro MicroSystems. “By drastically reducing energy loss and providing a 95% discount in footprint, we’re giving our prospects extra design freedom, larger energy density, and a quicker path to constructing smaller, extra environment friendly methods for the way forward for e-Mobility, industrial automation, and clear power.”
